    对于旅游购物的研究始于1970年代。Graburn (1977)在旅游人类学(Smith, V. ed.)一书中提出,由于旅游体验的抽象性不可触摸性,旅游者希望通过购买具体的可触摸的纪念品来记录在出游过程中的特殊的体验。在此后的研究中,购物也被当作旅游体验不可缺少的一部分。

 

    Littrell等于1994年在Journal of Travel Research上发表的Souvenirs and Tourism Styles是最早的采用定量方法对旅游购物现象进行深入研究的,也是目前引用率最高的一篇文章。该文章运用factor analysis(因子分析),根据旅游者偏好的活动、旅游纪念品种类及购买行为,将旅游者分为四种类型,分别是艺术、人文、民族(ethnic, arts, and people);历史及公园(history and park);城市娱乐(urban entertainment);以及户外运动(active outdoor。在该文中,作者们还对每种类型的旅游者的行为特征及其所偏好的旅游纪念品类型进行了研究。在此后的研究中,研究者们研究了游客的人口学特征、社会经济学特征、以及其心理特征对旅游购物行为行为特征、态度、以及旅游花费的影响。重点推荐的六篇文章:
